I have a 13 year old autistic son. Now when he was small and very cute i could handle the situation but now that he's growing up and there is lots of changes in the development i think i'm faced with more challenges than him. I know that God comes through for me time and time again but just maybe i need to get much closer to him. Please pray for us.

Charmaine, I am praying for you even now...
I pray for your strength during this time of transition in your son's life, and in your life.
I also ask that the Lord would grant your son special favors and grace in his life. Lord, please give Charmaine the strength and patience to endure this time of transition with joy and peace. In Jesus' name, amen.

I will pray for you Charmaine. I to have an autistic son. He is now 18 years old and will be graduating high school next year. I remember finding out about his autism. I blamed myself right off the bat. What did I do wrong when I was carrying him? Every negative thought entered my mind. I was responsible for his being healthy, yet I did something terribly wrong. Of course back then the causes of autism was still in the "research" stage. Now I have learned so much.

But, it took a lot of prayer, a lot of trusting and depending on God and his word to help me to know my son was special. God had something special planned for him. My son is a straight A student and his teacher are simply amazed at how smart and knowledgeable he is. He is so well loved by everyone. I know my son is destined to do great things which most people would believe other wise. Why do I believe this? Because I believe in God's Word and His awesome power. We don't understand why things happen, but God does. We don't know why things happen, but God does. Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge HIM and HE WILL direct your paths. Just keep trusting in the Lord.

Grace and Peace

You know Valerie, I've read through your words of encouragement several times and I could not respond as God first had to bring me to the understanding that my trust has got to be on Him and Him alone. I am now beginning to walk this walk of faith and I need to ask you to keep on praying for me as I now realise that God is destined to perform miracles still today.

I have a 9 year old nephew named Cooper who has his good days and bad days, too. Cooper is in the top third of the spectrum, meaning that he can socialize and interact with other people very well, and does good in his special education classes in a regular school district. But I think that he's having problems understanding the changes that I am going through with my Lou Gehrig's Disease, also known as ALS. He gets frustrated when he cannot understand my speaking voice (a lot of my family does as speech is one of the things affected with Lou Gehrig's Disease) and he does what I call his frustration dance. I am going to ask the next time that I am going to my ALS doctor if there are books at every level from pre-school on up to high school that explains what I am going through with my ALS. If not, I am going to try to write some. I love Cooper very much and one of his prized posessions is the afghan that I made for him that looks like Harry Potter's scarf. If you want to talk to me about your son, feel free to contact me. You are in my prayers. Judy

Charmaine, I am praying for you and your son. I am the mother of an adult challenged with autism. We went through head-banging and all sorts of challenges. I pray that God give you creative insight to cope with puberty, it can be really tough. And, yes at times, it can feel like we are faced with more challenges than our children. Please know that you are not alone. Things will get better. Today our daughter is much calmer; this past Spring she graduated from High School. I'd also like to invite you and others that have children with autism to a special time of prayer. The Autism Prayer Call is held every Tuesday evening for one hour. The prayer call begins at 9:00 Eastern, 8:00 Central, 7:00 Mountain and 6:00 Pacific time.

The phone number is 712-432-0234. Code 288276# (AUTISM#). In addition to praying, this Tuesday we will be giving thanks.

Demetria, God bless you for your faithfulness!

Marion, I just want to thank God for carrying me. There is a song that says: "He's eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me"

Charmaine, I love that song. There is just something so comforting about knowing that the Lord is watching over us. ;-)

I have a 19 year old autistic son, he has Asperger's Syndrome. Mine is 6'1, probably right around 200 lbs, so I know what you mean. You are faced with many more challenges than he is. I spent many a night praying for guidance, help, assistance, patience and God has provided in every case. He is in College and I am not sure it is the right place for him, time and prayer will tell.

Do you have adequate support? Friends, family, counselors, helpers. Your load is much heavier than his. After all you have to carry your own load and his as well. I had to learn to lean on people or I never would have survived.

I attached a picture Nate and I taken in the last year. I hope you are still out there, please let me know how you are doing.
