How To Help Our Sisters Of The 9-11 Tragedy

With the aftermath of 9-11, many of our nation’s women and men, teens, and young children have suffered from severe PSTD (post traumatic stress syndrome). It is noted that alcohol consumption, tobacco consumption, and promiscuity, have all increased in the recent months following the attack on the Twin Towers- especially in the areas near and surrounding Manhattan. Suicide rates also increased as a result of the depression many people experienced in losing loved ones and enduring the horrific crisis that occured in September 11, 2001.

Despite the despair, our nation’s women have trudged through the upheaval and managed to continue on in their lives, moving forward, but never forgetting the tragedy of that day.

Sometimes stressors can be tragic and spontaneous. It is disheartening and sickening, the events that occurred on 9-11.

Where, then, is the hope?

God’s women can only hope in one truth: that in the midst of their great losses on this earth, the Lord God is with them, never to leave. Our sisters are hurting- they’ve lost a husband, a dad, a friend, the father of their children, a fiance. Eight years after this tragedy, the only true solace and comfort comes from the power of a greater Love.

I firmly believe that our responsibility, as citizens and friends of the nation, is to reach out to our hurting sisters- through friendships, encouragement, support, a helping hand. Ask someone you know who has been affected by this tragedy what you can do to help her. Be a shoulder to lean on. Most of all, just let her know that you’re available to talk or listen.
